Tonight ABC School had another fun Family Night.
Ms. Linda answered several questions and shared
many helpful suggestions for working with the students at home:
- Be concise with your language or directives.
- Non-verbal language is "louder" than verbal language.
- Using visuals (pictures, gestures, signs) may help the child to better comprehend.
- Stick to your word; don't give in.
- Consistency is key - make sure all adults are giving the same messages.
- Structure and routines are important to follow, as they serve to comfort the child.
- Be mindful that transitions, changes in routines/schedules, or surprises may upset the child.
- Know what motivates the child and use it as reinforcement.
- Be positive.
- Remember to have fun with them - they are, after all, just children!
