Wow, we have had an exciting and busy month!!! So many fun themes, new OT, a play yard outside, Fun Food Fridays and Science Experiments!!!
On September 4th, we had our 1st Science Day and it was a beautiful day to explore some activities outside!!! Our Science theme was 'Self-Control and Good Behavior'. The perfect theme to start off the school year. We did a fun activity with bubbles....SELF CONTROL BUBBLES. The students went out side and we blew bubbles!!!! They had so much fun popping and popping the bubbles.
Then they STOPPED! Rules had changed. The students were told to freeze. They had to control themselves not to pop the bubbles.
For the remainder of Science Day, we read stories about making good choices at school, watched videos about good manners and used lots of new vocabulary in small group discussions.
Back to School
The children enjoyed getting to know each other the first few weeks of school with the Back to School theme. We talked about the rules for our class, what we use in school and new and exciting activities that will be included this year!
For Fun Food Friday, we made a School Bus! It was made with a graham cracker, vanilla wafers, cream cheese(tinted yellow) and a golden graham cereal.
All About Me
The next week, we talked about All About Me with the Science theme of Mapping. Ms. Carson had the students engage in some fun activities with the theme.
Scavenger Hunt!!!!
We sent the kids on a Scavenger hunt in the gym to teach them mapping skills. Each student was given a clue to follow that lead them to another clue until they found their prize. The older students had to follow cardinal directions with the clues.
For Fun Food Friday, we made a face out of a tortilla shell, hummus, red peppers, tomatoes, carrots, and cucumbers. The children loved rolling their tortilla shell up and eating it at the end.
All About Me!
This year, we have started a
STAR STUDENT OF THE WEEK!
Each week, a student is randomly selected to be the Star Student. They take home a poster home and complete with their family to tell their friends all themselves!! They get to bring in their favorite book, be circle leader, bring in a special treat and wear the Star Student necklace all week.
For the next couple weeks, we talked about Apples and Fall!
We made homemade applesauce one week.
Most of the children loved it and gave it a thumbs up!!!
Some did not think it was SWEET enough!
We made an APPLE TREE out of a Ritz cracker, cream cheese, craisins, and pretzel stick.
Last, we made HARVEST HASH trail mix out of bugles, Honeycomb cereal, Candy corn, popcorn, chocolate chips, Chex Muddy Buddy, and marshmallows.
The children enjoyed sharing for Apples and Fall!
Oh .... and Ms. Carson always brings in fun activities with our themes!
The last few weeks, we talked about Senses, Planting, and Space in Science!
Senses
We had each student explore their senses with all kinds of things!!!!
Drum, rattle and a cute CD with everything from thunder, door closing to dogs barking.
Pine cone, ice, and cotton
Color blind sheets
Cinnamon, coffee, onion and a nice floral scent
Apples, popcorn and Skittles
Planting!
The children had fun planting grass to make hair.
Space
We made our own little Space in a bottle with stars, plastic rocks, glitter, glitter glue, blue food coloring, and water.
LASTLY......
we have had so much fun this month!!!!
Playing games with the kids...
eating outside in our new play area...
