It was nice to come back to school after a long Winter Break! We are definitely feeling the Winter season with the cold weather and snow!!!
The themes for the month of January consisted of:
- Winter/Snow (2 weeks)
- Arctic Animals
- Dinosaurs
The children had fun rolling in the snow!
Throwing snow balls!
Dressing up as a Snowman!
Science Day themes for this month consisted on :
- Matter
- Arctic Animals
- Dinosaurs
Matter
The children learned about the three different types of Matter; liquid, solid and gas. First, we sorted pictures into the three categories.
Next, the children made a Root Beer Float by demonstrating the three types of matter; liquid (Root Beer), solid (ice cream) and gas (bubbles)
Arctic Animals
The children learned about how animals can Camouflage themselves into their surroundings by the color of their fur.
Next, the children sorted Arctic Animals onto a Venn diagram by where they live; water, land or both.
Last, the children learned about how Blubber can keep polar bears warm in the snow. They placed both hands in a bowl of ice water. But, one hand had butter(blubber) protecting their hands from the cold water.
Dinosaurs
First, the children pretended to be Paleontologist by discovering dinosaurs in rocks.
Next, they made dinosaur impressions in sand.
Last, we grew Dinosaurs in water.
The children made a Snowman out of pancakes, mini-chocolate chips, bacon and mini marshmallows. Fun spin on breakfast food!!!
With the Snow theme, the children made a polar bear with fish swimming around.
The polar bear was made out of 2 apples, mini-chocolate chips, 1 raisin, mini-marshmallows and goldfish.
Then, the children made a dinosaur egg out of Rice Krispie treats. Yum!
