The ABC School students, teachers, and families once again took a field trip to the Corn Maze. This is definitely a highlight of the year. The kids were able to do many activities, such as walking through a corn maze, riding a cow train, playing in a giant shed filled with corn kernels, riding oversized trikes, pumping water for duckie races, and many more.

Scarecrow Fun Friday.
I don't think this tasty scarecrow will keep the birds away...
...it sure didn't keep these students from munching theirs.

We "be-leaf" fall is the best!
Raking leaves helps with gross motor skills - and teamwork skills.
This is harder than it looks!
Raking leaves is fun!

An apple a day, keeps us happy at play.
"Leaping into Fall!"
Sharing a favorite apple book.
Look, we can spell "apple"!
This boy brought in a bunch of apples to share.
This boy is reading his own apple story.
Why bring an apple, when you can bring apple pie!
There's a new teacher in town.
The kids love music time.
Singing is fun!

Apple Fun Friday.
Almost every
Friday, ABC teachers set up "Fun Friday" for the students. This is a special
time for the students to have fun making their own snacks with different kinds
of food - and then they get to eat them! The teachers make Fun Friday creative:
a Twinkie "school bus", mini-caramel apples, and animal-shaped grilled cheese
sandwiches are a few of the snacks made this year. The goal of Fun Friday is to
encourage kids to try new foods. By allowing the students to "cook" the snack
themselves, they get a chance to get up close and personal with different
textures, colors, smells, and tastes that they may typically avoid.
What is our Fun Friday for our apple theme? Why "candy" apples, of course!
Mmm - chocolate, marshmallow fluff, and caramel!
Chocolate apples are the best!
Eating apples isn't hard when they're "candied".
Just look at that happy face.
October Newsletter
The
first month of school was a great success!
We are now finishing up with our “All About Apples” theme
and will move onto our “Fall” theme. We
have been incorporating the themes into our every day academic and language
groups. Ms. Sharon has also followed our
theme in her OT sessions! The learning concepts that we have been focusing on
are following directions, descriptions, classification and sequencing as well
as the core concepts of colors, numbers, counting, letters, phonics and sight
words.
We are gearing up for our field trip to the corn maze (be sure to get your permission slip
in!) and are excited about our “Orange Lunch” that will take place at the end
of the month (details to follow).
Our
October themes are Fall, Leaves, Pumpkins and Halloween!
